The Tar Heels entered Sunday at No. 4 in the RPI, which updates daily, matching their spot earlier in the week. D1Baseball also ranks North Carolina No. 4 nationally and projects the Tar Heels as the No. 4 overall seed in its Field of 64 projections released Sunday.

In that projection, North Carolina would host the Chapel Hill Regional. Missouri State, the No. 31 overall seed, is slotted as the No. 2 seed in the regional, with Kentucky as the No. 3 seed and Saint Mary’s as the No. 4.

The projected bracket would pair the Chapel Hill Regional with the Eugene Regional, hosted by Oregon, the No. 13 national seed. That regional could feature plenty of tension, with in-state rival and Omaha contender Oregon State, the No. 18 overall seed, projected as the No. 2 seed. Tarleton is projected as the No. 3 seed and Milwaukee as the No. 4.

Under the current NCAA tournament format, the selection committee ranks the top 32 teams. Seeds 17-32 are then placed as No. 2 seeds in regionals hosted by the top 16 national seeds: Nos. 29-32 go to seeds 1-4, Nos. 25-28 to seeds 5-8, Nos. 21-24 to seeds 9-12, and Nos. 17-20 to seeds 13-16. Geography still factors into placement when possible, and teams from the same conference cannot be placed in the same regional, sometimes forcing adjustments to those seed lines.

The official seedings and regionals will be announced Monday at noon ET.
