On Sunday afternoon, Legge will take part in the Indy 500, which is slated to see a green flag around 12:45 p.m. ET.
Then, at night, Legge will be racing in the Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET., weather permitting.
That’s 1,100 miles of racing in two different cars, and in two different states.
Legge will be making history in the process, becoming the first woman to accomplish this feat.
She’ll be the sixth driver in total to take on The Double, joining John Andretti, Robby Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and Kyle Larson.
Katherine Legge no-shows for introductions
Dale Coyne Racing with RWR driver Katherine Legge (51) signs autographs Sunday, May 26, 2024, during the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Before she gets going, Legge had a bit of a mishap, as she didn’t appear for driver introductions ahead of the Indy 500, which led to this hilarious moment.
Either Legge went invisible before the race, or she just didn’t make it out on time for the intros.
What led to Legge’s absence has not yet been revealed, but we’ll almost certainly get an explanation at some point during the day.

“Honestly, it’s been overwhelmingly supportive,” Legge said. “Also, the response from inside the industry itself has been wonderful, the number of drivers who have reached out. People who have offered encouragement or just excitement around this effort.
Legge has also received a helping hand from one of the very drivers who attempted the same thing she is about to.
“The best drivers are the ones that also help other drivers, and Kyle Larson and his team have been super helpful. I think there’s a shared understanding within motorsports of how difficult and rare this challenge really is. That’s been very humbling because drivers understand better than anyone what goes into even attempting the crazy things we sign ourselves up for,” she added.

- Kyle Larson (2025) – Did not finish Indianapolis 500; did not finish Coca-Cola 600
Based on the history of drivers taking on The Double, Legge’s chances of winning either race are nil. So, that leaves another opportunity for her to make history.
That said, so much as competing in both races is an incredible accomplishment in and of itself, no matter where she finishes.
