On 23 May, social media was buzzing with mostly hilarious reactions to the reports that Unathi Nkayi was allegedly arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

UNATHI WAS ALLEGEDLY ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING
According to the Sunday Times, it all started on 16 May 2026 when officers from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) stopped Unathi during their late-night patrol.
This incident took place along Boundary Road in Robindale, Johannesburg, after she was suspected of driving under the influence.
In a statement seen by the Sunday Times, a verbal showdown erupted after Unathi refused when the officers requested to search her car without her permission.
Following this, she also filed a crimen injuria case at the Linden police station against a female officer for swearing at her during the commotion.
It all ended with the former Idols judge and Kaya FM host being arrested for allegedly drunk driving, but she was later released on bail from the Linden police station.
On 18 May, Unathi appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court; however, the investigators are waiting for the blood tests to be finalised as her case is far from over.
UNATHI NKAYI HOGGED THE HEADLINES THIS WEEK
The health-conscious mother of two was the talk of the town this week after she showed her support to the award-winning actor Bonko Khoza.
He remains in the thick of the storm after fellow cast member Nirvana Nokwe-Mseleku accused him of sexually violating her during a scene on Showmax’s Red Ink.
A flurry of local celebrities proudly showed their support for Bonko, including Unathi, who wrote: “As a boy mom, I am grateful @bomb_productions released this.”
In relation to her arrest, social media users have shared their funny comments cleverly using Unathi’s popular words, “as a boy mom.”
