Quick breakdown

Patterson had steady production for three seasons, eclipsing the 500-yard receiving mark from 2023 through 2025. His most productive season came last year, when he totaled 678 receiving yards with five touchdowns. Patterson has been a big-play threat, averaging 21.2 yards per catch in 2025 and 17.6 yards per reception for his career.

They said it

In an interview with Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Patterson's college coach, Kris McCullough, provided some insight into Patterson's game:

“He was a guy you couldn’t stay with,” McCullough said. “Nickels in man to man struggled against him because if they didn’t get their hands on him, he would run straight by them.”

McCullough added, "He is so smart, he didn’t need a whole lot of practice reps. One of the smartest players I’ve coached. He was always a guy who did everything the right way.”

Can Ben Patterson make a roster push with the Jaguars?

During the NFL draft, wide receiver became a fairly crowded room for the Jaguars with the additions of CJ Williams and Josh Cameron, who join Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Travis Hunter. That's already six potential roster spots accounted for.

Perhaps the Jaguars go heavy here with Travis Hunter playing both ways and keep a seventh wideout, which would then open up a potential roster spot. Beyond the receiving aspect of playing the position, the ability to help in the run game and contribute on special teams can be differentiators for those back-end of the roster players. Patterson will be competing against more experienced players, like Austin Trammell and Tim Jones, for that potential roster spot.
