The Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation remains a must-watch over the course of the offseason as Todd Monken tries to figure out who will be his starter.

For most, it is a two-horse race between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, with both having legitimate claims for the role.

But one thing has been made clear by Monken: the best quarterback will win the job. But who is that right now? Some think Watson.

However, don't discount Sanders.

"I think Shedeur's come miles, in terms of his progressions, getting the ball out, his understanding of concepts," Monken said via ESPN. "I think he's really, really come a long way."

Can Sanders be Week 1 starter?

Absolutely, he can. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that Watson will start in Week 1. That is for a couple of reasons.

One, he likely gives Cleveland the best chance to win right now, and the second is his contract. The Browns will want to get some value from that, and Watson warming the bench won't get it.

But I feel Sanders is the long-term answer, at least this season, so even if Watson starts, I'd imagine he'll be thin ice to begin with, and it won't take much for a change to happen.

Sanders has quietly gone about his business this offseason, and Monken has clearly noticed the difference. Time will tell if Shedeur is the guy to lead Cleveland in 2026.
