What is Colts plan for replacing Michael Pittman's production?
· Yahoo Sports
With OTAs beginning next week for the Indianapolis Colts, there are a few roster questions that remain. Perhaps most notably, as discussed by ESPN's Stephen Holder, the Colts must figure out how to replace Michael Pittman's production.
"They've got to figure out how to replace his production," Holder began. "He led this team in targets in three of the past five seasons, and so, even though they return Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, and tight end Tyler Warren, the remarkable 2025 rookie, the Colts still have to fill that gap. Can they do it with the existing depth on the roster, which is a little thin? Or do they need to pursue a free agent?"

If the Colts were still interested in exploring free agency, ESPN's Matt Bowen recently mentioned Deebo Samuel as an ideal fit for Indianapolis.
That said, if the Colts keep the receiver room as is, it may end up being a group effort to replace Pittman's production.
Without the wideout, that likely means more opportunities for Josh Downs, whose target share was reduced last season with the addition of Tyler Warren. Alec Pierce, meanwhile, is prepared to step into that true WR1 role following his big payday, and with that should be more targets.
We could also see a by-committee approach when it comes to that WR3 role, with matchups and in-game situations dictating whether we see more of Ashton Dulin, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, or Deion Burks.
As of now, it doesn't appear that there is any one player who will be tasked with shouldering Pittman's lost production. Rather, it will be a group effort.
