The 2026 NFL free agency pool is still filled with a bunch of proven players with immense talent, especially wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

After being cut by the Miami Dolphins in February, Hill has yet to find a home. During his four-year stint in Miami, the eight-time Pro Bowler tallied two seasons with over 110 catches and 1,700 receiving yards, and even led the league in receiving touchdowns with 13 in 2023.

However, 2025 was a rough year for Hill, as a dislocated knee caused him to miss most of the year, and it could be the reason why he remains unsigned in the final weeks of May.

Adam Schefter may have revealed why Tyreek Hill is still in free agency

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter discussed the state of the free-agent wide receiver market and added a nugget on Hill that could explain why the former All-Pro hasn't signed with a team yet.

"I think some of these free agent wide receivers will be able to hand-pick their opportunities right before training camp," Schefter said. "Maybe a week or two into camp."

"Tyreek Hill is in an injury situation where he may not be ready till midway through the season."

It looks like Hill's health is still a major question mark, and Schefter stating that the veteran may not be ready to return to game action until the halfway point of the season is a shocking development.

There's no reason for a team to sign Hill and waste a roster spot on a player who won't be able to suit up until potentially late October or even November. That could explain why the 32-year-old is having a lengthy stay on the free agency market.

We'll see when Hill gets picked up, but based on what Schefter said, there's a high chance the dynamic receiver doesn't sign with a franchise until the season actually starts in September or later.
