Texas A&M reportedly hosted 2027 5-star OL on Thursday

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class continues to make noise heading into Saturday's Maroon & White Game, which will serve as the 15th spring practice heading into the summer, and according to multiple sources, including Rivals/On3 insider Steve Wiltfong, coach Mike Elko and his staff hosted 2027 five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews on Thursday.

It's been quite the battle for the elite Florida-based offensive lineman, as the Miami Hurricanes, who defeated Texas A&M in the first round of the College Football Playoff, and even after landing blue-chip four-star offensive linemen DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott, OL coach Adam Cushing continues to be in on nearly every offensive line prospect in the 2027 cycle.

Right now, Mark Matthews and fellow five-star offensive lineman Albert Simien join a shrinking list of priority prospects who remain uncommitted after four-star wide receiver Jaden Upshaw committed to the Aggies on Wednesday night.

Among Matthews' four finalists, Miami, LSU, and Georgia represent Texas A&M's primary competition; the Hurricanes continue to lead, but with the elite blocker back on campus, Elko and Cushing are gaining confidence that they'll be potential leaders in Matthews' commitment.

"The five-star Matthews will get the full experience of a day in a life of a Texas A&M football player. He has also started building relationships with members of the 2027 class that already ranks No. 1 nationally including quarterback Jayce Johnson. In the past he has talked highly of the program trajectory and coaching staff."

On the field, Mark Matthews possesses the physical tools and athleticism to become a future first-round NFL Draft selection, currently standing at 6'6" and over 300 pounds. Matthews projects to become an elite pass protector due to his movement skills, and given his background as a basketball player, athleticism isn't an issue.

According to Rivals, Matthews is currently positioned as the 3rd-ranked player nationally, and the No. 1-ranked offensive tackle and prospect in Florida.
