Doncaster Rovers Fans Verdict: Teetering Into Toxicity
· Yahoo Sports
You can probably count on one hand the number of genuinely good afternoons out we’ve had watching Reading this season. But Saturday was definitely a new low.
It was so bad it was almost funny. The emotions in the away end started with impatience, moved through to frustration, then all-out anger and ended in open mockery.
Visit afsport.lat for more information.
I usually try and sort the reaction of the fans into two or three distinct sections for this, but the Reading FC hashtag was more of a melting pot than it ever has been on Saturday evening, so I’ve tried my best…
Leam Richardson
I’m still 99% sure Richardson will be in charge come August, but he is currently showing very little evidence that he deserves that privilege.
There’s not really a huge amount here I can or even want to say, you just have to read the tweets below. Essentially, it’s a long, long way back for Leam when it comes to the fans now…
I refuse to watch another game until Leam Richardson is gone #readingfc

Couhig & co need to be ballsy and get rid of Richardson. Playoffs were the target and he's failed to get us there. Moreover, fans are losing interest and attendances will keep on dropping. They will never grow the club with him around #readingfc

Get Richardson out so we can actually rebuild over the summer with a competent manager #readingfc

Ok enough is enough. Joining the bandwagon.. Richardson out #readingfc

Break the bank, we need a top manager, we can’t be languishing in this league much longer! Leam R isn’t our guy! #readingfc
— Darren Seward (@darren_seward1) April 11, 2026
Leam should never have been appointed to begin with. His record is terrible, and his tactics and signings even worse.
— The Big Wang (Shay Spencer Enthusiast) (@TheDingOf06) April 11, 2026
He’s not big enough for the Reading job, he’s a mediocre league two manager, that’s it. #readingfc
No thanks Leam, that's more than enough for me #readingfc
— Tom Maynard (@ttmaynard) April 11, 2026
Richardson just said on BBC Berks that he took Kadan Young off at HT to bring as many flair players on as possible… I don’t know what’s worse – he classes Ritchie more flair than Young, or the fact he has Young playing RWB and complains. Clueless #ReadingFC

I have a lot of respect for the owners but I’ll have a huge amount more if they swallow their pride and say they got it wrong. Richardson out. #readingfc
— Steph (@Stephan65595292) April 11, 2026
I reckon Richardson has lost the dressing room judging by the reaction of some of the players after that. Unsurprising, with such horrendous tactics. Can’t see us progressing if he’s given the summer. #readingfc

The football
I mean, it’s a compliment even calling it football really, isn’t it?
It’s just absolutely awful to watch, it was comical at times against Doncaster Rovers. Countless misplaced passes, even more dodgy first touches, and yet even more aimless hoofs up the pitch.
I’m all well and good with us not getting playoffs, but there needs to be direction, and we need to have at least given it a go. The football we’ve played recently has been nothing short of pathetic, and the fans clearly agree with me…
3 shots on target in the last 3 season defining games. Our football produced that. If that’s not telling for next season…We need a gaffer who makes us dream and plays good football. Just look at the teams that went on to succeed from L1…Clean slate next season #readingfc

That's genuinely the worst football match I've seen in over 30 years of watching. Two poor teams but we were simply awful #readingfc
— Claire Gould (@ClaireLJG1987) April 11, 2026
I think I hate his football more than that of Paul Clement and Paul Ince #readingfchttps://t.co/qOWzM4vr4i

Oh dear. Now we can lean back but our feet up and enjoy stress-free scintillating football for the last three matches of the season. 😁 #readingfc
— Paul Simon carey (@PaulSimoncarey1) April 11, 2026
If you're playing football this negatively, you need to at least get results, we've been diabolical to watch for a long time now. Richardson out #readingfc
— Shahid Butt is a terrorist (@1871106RG) April 11, 2026
Well that’s that then.
— Nick Knight (@NJK20171) April 11, 2026
To be honest it would be an absolute travesty to make the play offs the way that we play football.
Massive improvement required. #readingfc
Football for the people.
— Mac (@MacauleyWeaver) April 11, 2026
Just not those who support Reading.#ReadingFChttps://t.co/U3x1Lrwss8
Not quite sure how people are defending this. @RCouhig can you explain how this football is getting us anywhere? #readingfc
— micah (@m1871e) April 11, 2026
We played better football under Bullivant, Clement and Ince, probably the worst three managers in my memory. Like Terry, Leam obviously interviewed very well because neither are/were good enough to be anywhere near this club #readingfc
— Gavin Willoughby (@TheRealWilloman) April 11, 2026
Please just sack him! This is awful awful football, we need a fresh start #readingfc
— Mike (@MikeyM1871) April 11, 2026
Conclusion
I could go on and on and on showing tweets about Richardson and his style of football. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the fanbase so unanimous in its opinion on someone in the dugout, and that’s saying something when you think about some of the managers we have had in recent times.
Honestly, I just want this season to end. It’s been a mess from start to finish. For us all to be feeling like this at this stage of our first post-takeover season where we’ve pushed (if you even call it that) for a top-six spot is some kind of sick achievement in itself.
