YVR spokesperson Aline Dumalski said in an email that a group of passengers were behaving in an unruly manner onboard flight WS2662 bound for Cabo San Lucas.
She added that the RCMP removed the group from the plane, which departed again for Mexico later Saturday morning.
She would not provide any other details and deferred questions to WestJet and the RCMP. Postmedia has reached out to both for more information.
Being unruly on a plane is strictly prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Aeronautics Act.
Passengers can be arrested upon landing, charged, prosecuted, and potentially receive a criminal record, according to Transport Canada.
Under Canadian law, illegal behaviour on a plane includes harassment, verbal abuse, physical assault, sexual offences, intimidation, drunk or disorderly conduct, ignoring smoking regulations, drinking personal alcohol, refusing to follow crew instructions, and endangering the aircraft’s safety.
