It’s a busy weekend for Angelo State Athletics as Lone Star Conference play continues to intensify across all sports. For the Rambelles softball team, they looked to defend their home turf at Mayer Softball Field once again Friday night, hosting Western New Mexico.

The Rambelles drew first blood in game one via Kamryn Loeffler’s RBI single to left field. The Mustangs responded with two unanswered runs in the top of the third inning to lead 2-1, but that lead was short lived. The Rambelles had a huge response, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning before a six-run sixth to lead 9-2. ASU won game one by that score.

Game two was a similar story. The Rambelles trailed 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but once again the Mustangs saw their lead short lived. Angelo State jumped ahead 3-1 in its ensuing bottom half of the frame to lead 3-1, followed by three runs each in the remaining innings. The Rambelles ran away with a 12-1 run rule victory in just five innings. Zoey Sifuentes went 3-for-3 at the plate, leading the team with five RBI. She fell a triple shy of a cycle.

Angelo State improves to 21-5 in conference play and 32-9 overall. The Rambelles host Sul Ross State in their next doubleheader on Sunday, April 12.
