PHOENIX – One of the biggest surprises this NBA season has been the Phoenix Suns. From expected lottery loiters to playoff predators, the franchise has cemented itself as one of the most hardworking teams in the NBA, which can be thanks to the arrival of Dillon Brooks. The 30-year-old was an afterthought in the Kevin Durant trade between Phoenix and the Houston Rockets, but he has become crucial in the Suns culture.

Brooks was a fringe All-Star this season and his grit and toughness has infected his teammates to be some dogs in the Valley. Ahead of his revenge game vs. Houston on Tuesday, Brooks released a piece in the Players’ Tribune where he talked about what this past season has meant to him. Near the end of the story, Brooks made sure to everyone knows, he is a Sun for life.

Brooks on desire to retire a Sun:

“When guys get traded, they always say, ‘This is the perfect fit.’ I’d be bullshi*ting if I said I knew it at the time. But I damn sure know it now. Phoenix is my spot. I want to set the culture here for 20 years. I want to retire a Sun.”

Brooks stated that he is a different player and person compared to himself in 2018 or even 2023. The Canadian forward has found himself in the desert, citing his 40-point game vs. the Detroit Pistons this season as a massive confidence booster.

In his closing paragraphs, Brooks talked about people in the NBA don’t want to see the Suns or himself in the playoffs. Discussing how experts thought the team would be in the lottery, but now have outperformed those expectations by a mile, leading to some uncomfortable realizations for some. Brooks would close out his Players’ Tribune piece with one simple question:

“Honestly, answer me…. Who in their right mind wants to see the Phoenix Suns right now?”

With four games to go, Phoenix is the healthiest its been all season. Brooks and Mark Williams both returned to the floor during the team’s last road trip. Outside of end of bench guys, the Suns have no injuries to any starters or key reserve players for the first time all season. The team’s health comes at a perfect time, with the Play-In less than a week away.

The franchise hasn’t secured its spot in the Playoffs yet. However, with the confidence Brooks has in his team, the Suns seem like a lock to face off against the top contenders in the West and do something that he’s stellar at: making some noise.
