An 8-hour planned power outage will affect 20 Johannesburg suburbs on Tuesday, 7 April 2026 and on Wednesday 8 April 2026.

City Power Johannesburg mentioned in a statement that the reason for the outage is due to essential maintenance work that needs to be done on their electricity network.
POWER OUTAGE TO AFFECT THESE AREAS ON THESE DAYS
The power outage will occur at Parkhurst Substation on Tuesday, 7 April 2026 from 8:30 to 16:30 and will affect the areas listed below:
- Dunkeld
- Craighall
- Parkwood
- Greenside
- Saxonwold
- Victory Park
- Emmarentia
- Linden
- Westcliff
- Parkview
- Pine Park
- Blairgowrie
- Forest Town
- Piemeef Park
At Beyers Substaton, the outage will also occur on the same day from 9:00 to 17:00 in the areas listed below:
- Fairlands
- West Bank
- Darrenwood
- MTN 14th Avenue
On Wednesday, 8 April 2026, at Beyers Substation, the power outage will occur from 9:00 to 17:00 in the areas listed below:
- Windsor West
- Randpark Ridge
As power may be restored at any time, the power utility urged its customers to use the electricity supply points as live.
City Power has apologised for the inconvenience that the power outage caused.

“We have promptly the issue to our IT department, and they are actively investigating the matter, with plans to restore the service as soon as possible,” the power utility wrote in a statement.
City Power added that they were available only through their website www.citypower.mobi and www.citypower.co.za.
Meanwhile, a smoke has emerged in Central Substation – Feederboard 1 & 2 affecting Selby, Salisbury Claims, Wemmer, Marshalltown, Carlton Centre, Droste Park, Doornfontein and surroundings due to attempted cable theft.
The maintenance team has arranged a contractor to conduct repairs and possible replacement of damaged cables and equipment in the area.
OUTAGE UPDATES IN JOHANNESBURG
An unplanned power outage has affected several areas in Johannesburg where power was cut off.
Technicians have restored power at Ruimsig Switching Station in Honeydew, Honeypark and possible surrounding areas.
At Alexandra Substation and Mondeor Substation, technicians have restored power to customers at Far Eastbank, Far Eastbank Extension 1,2,6, 7, Alan Manor, Meredale and surrounding areas.
Repairs are complete and power has been restored at Siemert Road Substation to some parts of Doornfontein and surroundings.
Power supply has also been restored at Jabulani, Sgodiphola, Langebaan, Stompneusbaai, Crowthorne, Kyalami and Willaway.
In other news, Eskom has warned customers to be wary of fake electricity token scams on WhatsApp.
The electricity provider mentioned in a statement that scammers advertise “cheap” electricty offers WhatsApp and other online platforms.
“Only purchase from authorised vendors like Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, Pick n Pay, filling stations, and online banking,” wrote Eskom.
