The Illinois Fighting Illini are back in the March Madness Final Four for the first time in decades, but the Big Ten team is getting cooked online due to an a cappella group performance.
Head coach Brad Underwood and his team are among the last four teams remaining in the 2026 NCAA Tournament. However, college basketball fans are overlooking the Fighting Illini for a hilarious reason.

Illinois a cappella group, Xtention Chords, went viral Saturday with a 45-second performance and dance routine. Unfortunately, social media isn’t always the friendliest place and that led to some major backlash.

The all-male performance featured several Illinois students belting out their popular song as the Illini prepare to play in their first Final Four since 2005.
However, online comments continue to roast the a cappella group, including Barstool Sports and other major accounts. Many college basketball fans aren’t giving Illinois a shot to win the game against UConn.
Illini reach first Final Four in two decades
That comes despite the fact that the Illini recently knocked off Houston in the Sweet Sixteen and Iowa in the Elite Eight. Meanwhile, Illinois also took down Pennsylvania and VCU earlier in the tournament.
“Game hasn’t even tipped yet & Illinois is already cooked,” a Barstool Sports post read.

This season, Illinois are one of the top stories to come out of March Madness. The FIghting Illini are one of nine Big Ten programs to reach the tournament in 2026.

Keaton Wagler and Andrej Stojakovic are two of the biggest factors for Illinois during their impressive run. Both talented shooters can be excellent at the next level as well with the 2026 NBA Draft on the horizon.
The Illinois-Connecticut winner is rewarded with a trip to the national championship game on April 6. Fellow one seeds Arizona and Michigan meet in the other Final Four game Saturday night.
Underwood’s team has the benefit of knowing the Wolverines quite well after meeting during Big Ten play in the regular season.
