Men’s Lacrosse (6-3)

The men’s lacrosse team picked up its second straight win in conference play with a 13-6 win over Ohio State. Penn State outscored the Buckeyes in the first three quarters and did not give up more than two goals in any quarter. Jack Iannantuono, Chase Robertson, Liam Matthews, and Michael Faraone all scored two goals for the offense, which got off to its usual hot start in the first half and never looked back.

Penn State ranks No. 8 in the RPI, and the Nittany Lions still control their fate to win the Big Ten regular season title. The Lions will take on Johns Hopkins tomorrow (noon on ESPNU) looking to continue their unbeaten start in conference play.

Women’s Lacrosse (9-3)

The losing streak reached three for the women’s team, a hard-fought 14-13 loss to still-unbeaten Maryland. Rocquette Allen scored six goals for Penn State, and she nearly willed Penn State back into a tie all by herself with two goals in the fourth quarter. It was another tough setback, but there are signs of improvement across the board in this program.

Penn State will take on Ohio State on Sunday (noon on Big Ten Plus).

Men’s Volleyball (14-7)

The men’s volleyball team swept NJIT twice over the weekend in their resumption of EIVA play. The Nittany Lions held NJIT to 0.165 and 0.160 hitting percentage in the two matches. Owen Rose had six blocks in each of the two matches, and Sean Harvey led the team in kills in both matches.

Penn State will face Charleston tonight (7pm) and tomorrow (3pm).

Softball (23-12)

The softball team swept Rutgers over the weekend before falling 8-7 to Pitt on Tuesday. Allison Oneacre hit two home runs, and Bridget Nemeth and McKenna Young combined for a shutout in the first game of the Rutgers series, which helped the Nittany Lions set the tone for one of its smoothest weekend series of the season.

Penn State ranks No. 56 in the latest RPI, which would likely have them on the outside looking in for the NCAA Tournament. Fortunately, there is still plenty of time to make up some ground. Penn State hosts Maryland for a series this weekend (Friday at 2pm, Saturday at 11am and 1:30pm). All games will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.

Baseball (8-18)

The baseball team lost two of its three games against Illinois over the weekend. An eighth-inning home run by Michael Anderson provided the winning margin for Penn State in a 9-8 win in Game 1, but it was all downhill from there the rest of the series. Illinois easily took Game 2 16-5 and shut out Penn State 6-0 in the rubber match.

In an April Fool’s twist, Wednesday’s Dollar Dog Night game against UCF was cancelled due to weather. Penn State will travel to Nebraska for a weekend series (Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 3pm, Sunday at 1pm) and return home to face Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday for Dollar Dog Night (5:30pm). All games will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
