According to the India Meteorological Department, weather conditions are expected to remain gentle through the day, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 33°C. While no heatwave warning has been issued, humidity levels are likely to rise during the afternoon, potentially causing discomfort.

Air quality data further reflected the improved conditions. The city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 76 in the early hours, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category. This comes after exceptionally clean air readings over the past few days, when AQI levels dropped as low as 31 and even 21 overall.

The improvement is largely due to recent action by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which cracked down on construction sites flouting pollution control norms. The drive targeted both private and public infrastructure projects, aiming to curb dust pollution, a major contributor to deteriorating air quality in the city.

AQI Recorded Across City

However, the gains have not been uniform across Mumbai. Chembur emerged as a pollution hotspot, recording an AQI of 210, categorised as ‘unhealthy’. Other areas such as Vikhroli (157), Wadala (150), Sion (147) and Mumbai Central (143) fell within the ‘poor’ air quality range, indicating continued concerns in certain areas of the city.

Meanwhile, several other areas reported significantly cleaner air. Goregaon recorded an AQI of just 15, while Gamdevi reported 43. Worli and Malad West also saw ‘good’ air quality, with AQI levels of 45 each.

As per standard AQI classifications, values between 0 and 50 are considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘moderate’, 101 to 200 ‘poor’, 201 to 300 ‘unhealthy’, and above 300 ‘severe’.
