ESPN projects Ja'Kobi Lane to be new weapon for Drake Maye

USC's Ja'Kobi Lane had a very impressive offseason. He was great at the Senior Bowl and had a strong showing at the NFL combine. Still, many are expecting him to be a Day 3 pick. If that is where he lands, he will be one of the biggest steals of the NFL draft.

In a recent mock draft, analyst Matt Miller has the Patriots getting another weapon for Drake Maye in Ja'Kobi Lane. Miller has Lane falling to the 4th round with pick 131.

The Patriots had success with Stefon Diggs, but he brought a lot more to the table than what was needed with outside distractions. The Patriots are rumored to acquire A.J. Brown, but nothing is very certain with that ongoing situation. The Patriots added Romeo Dobbs in free agency, who should be an upgrade that also fits in with the direction of this team, as he is 25 about to be 26.

The Patriots could further bolster this receiver room by adding Ja'Kobi Lane on top of that. He is a 6-foot-4 receiver who can make about any catch and is smooth on his feet in his route running. No receiver had more highlight plays than Lane last season and maybe in his whole tenure at USC.

Drake Maye needs a reliable weapon, one on which he can trust, on any down to make that catch. Lane has the potential to be exactly that. The Patriots have a young receiver room full of guys with different skill sets. Ja'Kobi Lane has the ceiling to be the best receiver in that room.
