Daily Journal of Commerce reporter Brian Miller reported that the Seahawks are planning an expansion of their Virginia Mason Athletic Center training facility and headquarters in Renton. Designed by architectural firm HOK, the three-story expansion will extend the east and west sides of the building, adding more than 80,000 square feet to the facility.
In addition to nearly doubling the building’s square footage, the team is planning to add 160 new parking stalls, bringing the total to 435, according to Miller. The team hopes to begin construction this summer and have it completed by the fall of 2028.
The new addition will continue the current building’s visual language with a modern twist, utilizing a lot of glass to envelop the expansion, as per renderings shared by the architect. The VMAC was originally built in 2008 and has served as the Seahawks’ home base ever since, in addition to being the primary place for Seahawks fans to attend training camp practices.
The architect, HOK, is not new to sports design, having designed the Atlanta Falcons’ new Mercedes-Benz Stadium and, most recently, Saint Louis City Soccer Club’s stadium, Energizer Park. The Seahawks will be using a local, Seattle-based firm, Venture General Contracting, to complete the construction.
