The 24-year-old prospect took another step forward in his career with an emphatic win and finish over Josh Emmett in the UFC Vegas 114 main event on Saturday. Vallejos nearly ended it with a devastating counter right hand that put Emmett down but he stayed patient until the fight eventually worked back to the feet again.

From there, Vallejos just measured the damage he was unleashing as he blasted Emmett to the body with knees and then unloaded several more punishing right hands in a row. Emmett crumbled under the pressure and fell to the canvas again with referee Herb Dean rushing in to stop the fight at 3:33 in the opening round.

“I have the utmost respect for Josh Emmett,” Vallejos said after moving to 4-0 in the UFC. “I’m not going to lie, I came in here with a little bit of fear. We knew that [him throwing bombs] was part of the plan, we know we could counter. Listen, he’s an old dog, same tricks. He came with the same things, we knew it and we solved it.”

With Emmett dancing on the outside to open the fight, Vallejos was surgical with his striking combinations, attacking the lead leg and then throwing an uppercut that connected clean. Vallejos countered beautifully, popping Emmett with two and three shots in succession without fear of reprisal.

The speed from Vallejos was also keeping him a step ahead of Emmett in almost every exchange. Emmett threw a bomb midway through the opening round and Vallejos unloaded a perfectly timed right hand that dropped the veteran featherweight.

As Emmett shifted into survival mode on the canvas, Vallejos was unloading a barrage of punches and elbows but also not getting too wild to ensure he didn’t blow all of his energy. Emmett eventually worked his way back to the feet but that only gave Vallejos the opening he needed to unload even more strikes.

Vallejos began hammering away with knees to the body and head before he just unleashed a couple more heavy right hands that cracked Emmett and sent him down to the ground again. The second knockdown was more than enough for the referee to stop the fight as Vallejos put on another stunning performance while taking out a former interim title contender in just his fourth fight in the UFC.

“Argentina, keep dreaming,” Vallejos shouted to his home country fans. “Because you’re going to have a world champion.”

As for Emmett, he drops his third straight fight and falls to 1-5 in his past six outings. He actually removed his gloves in the cage but didn’t say if that move signified anything more than just his frustration after suffering another loss in the UFC.
