Gillian Robertson: Title shot has to be next after UFC Vegas 114

LAS VEGAS – Gillian Robertson thinks she has a resume worthy of a strawweight title shot after UFC Fight Night 269.

Robertson (17-8 MMA, 14-6 UFC) earned the most notable victory of her career Saturday at the Meta APEX, outworking former title challenger Amanda Lemos (15-6-1 MMA, 9-6 UFC) to a unanimous decision in the co-headliner.

With the win, Robertson is now on a five-fight winning streak in the strawweight division, and also has the fourth-most wins of any female in UFC history. She has proven that this is her best form yet, and with 115-pound champion Mackenzie Dern having no first title defense announced, "The Savage" is making her pitch.

"I think it's the only thing that makes sense," Robertson told MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight at UFC Fight Night 269. "Five wins in a row, most submissions, most finishes – I think that I deserve that spot. The only thing that would only solidify me any more is that belt."

Robertson, 30, got off to a slow start at UFC Fight Night 269, losing the first round to Lemos before taking over with the grappling to win in the second and third frames.

The Canadian revealed post-fight that she's been dealing with a lingering hip injury, but said it's not an issue that would prevent her from accepting a title shot vs. Dern (16-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) if offered.

"It's not an issue to the point I feel I can't fight with it," Robertson said. "It's more of an issue with walking, sleeping and things like that. Everyday life, it's more of an issue for me. It doesn't really stop me with anything in the cage."
