Seb Priaulx says he is dreaming of winning the Le Mans 24-hour race with Ford.

The 25-year-old from Guernsey is part of Ford's hypercar project with the aim of developing a car capable of winning the iconic 24-hour race in 2027.

Priaulx, the son of three-time World Touring Car champion Andy, currently races for Ford in the IMSA Sportscar Championship in the United States.

He will also be racing in the European Le Mans Series this year along with his work aiming for 2027.

"To be with the blue oval, going for the overall victory at Le Mans is a dream come true," he told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby and all these guys, like I'm now one of these people fighting for Le Mans for the overall victory, you know it's the overall, not many drivers can say that really.

"There's quite a few hypercars, but there's only a few people that win in their lifetime so hopefully I can get a win.

"It will be tough, but it's nice to be there at the start of the project because obviously I'm right at the beginning, I'm there when it started so I'm going to be throughout the whole ups and downs of the whole programme, so it's nice to be a part of that."

But winning at Le Mans will not be easy.

Ferrari and Toyota have dominated for much of the last decade - Ford have not won the overall title since 1969 when Belgium's Jacky Ickx and Great Britain's Jackie Oliver drove them through the chequered flag.

But Priaulx says he is ready for the hard work that faces him and the colleagues at ford in the coming year:

"I know the mountain is ahead of me. Ferrari have won it a lot of times, but it's going be nice to get us back fighting with Ferrari," he added.

"I think they're going to want a bit of a fight there, Ford versus Ferrari, it's massive in Le Mans.

"I think we can have a chance to win, we need reliability, obviously it's a brand new car so we need to figure out if the car can last that time.

"We've got a lot of 30 hour tests coming up in this year, just to test the car really.

"I'm really excited for it, I think we have a good chance to win there."

With Ford providing the powertrains for Red Bull and Racing Bulls in Formula 1, Priaulx has had the chance to work with the likes of former world champion Max Verstappen.

While he says he very much enjoys sportscar racing, he would love the chance to get behind the wheel of a Formula One car:

"All that stuff that they're doing for the Formula 1 guys is going to my car as well, so I'm only literally one step away from that.

"I'm with Max quite a lot, we do the hot laps together and I did them last year with Ford.

"I speak with him quite a bit and he's a good guy and he's obviously wanting to do Le Mans at some point, so I definitely need to keep pushing hard and hopefully maybe one day have him as a team mate.

"If I'm ever a test driver for Formula One or something, it would be great, but I think for me, just focusing on what I've got is amazing."
