Dodgers manager bothered by Tanner Scott quote

· Yahoo Sports

When the Dodgers installed Japanese-style bidets prior to the 2025 season, they were merely hoping Roki Sasaki would be part of the roster that used them.

Those bidets did their job, as far as recruiting Sasaki and receiving anything he had to offer between games. But a different Dodgers pitcher wants to flush his entire 2025 season: Tanner Scott.

Scott, whose first year of a four-year, $72 million contract with the Dodgers was a disaster, told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register that he’s looking to “wash it, flush it like a toilet, and just let it be.”

Scott lost his handle on the closer’s job before the Dodgers went on a run to the World Series championship. He finished the regular season 1-4 with a 4.74 ERA and a career-worst 9.47 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Dodgers signed Edwin Diaz over the winter in free agency to replace Scott, who will serve as a set-up man in 2026.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told Plunkett that one postgame quote from Scott last September bothered him. After a blown save in Baltimore, the left-hander told reporters “baseball hates me.”

“You never like your players saying something like that,” Roberts said, via Plunkett. “It just speaks to where you’re at mentally. And he was in a very negative place. And so I do think that if he had to do that one over again, he would take that one back. Because that’s just not a good way to look at things. It’s a little self-fulfilling.”

The Dodgers are hoping a more positive attitude from Scott in spring training leads to better results in the regular season.
