The NFL Scouting Combine got a number of live, broadcasted workouts underway. Yesterday, defensive linemen, linebackers, and place kickers got things started.

One of the most watched workouts is the 40-yard dash. Sometimes a polarizing process of the combine, the drill is a test of maximum speed and burst.

Some of the best results have led to major stock boosts. Yesterday, Penn State’s Zane Durant wowed the crowd with the night’s fastest 40-yard dash for a defensive tackle.

Durant was a standout defender and key player on the Nittany Lion’s defense. He came into the NFL Scouting Combine projected anywhere from a day-two to day-three draft projection.

At six-feet-one-inch and 290 pounds, an official 4.77 dash is incredible. His position likely will have him well within the interior–having a big guy that can move like that is an asset to have.

Durant, like many other prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine, took a big step towards helping his draft stock. The combine gives prospects a massive opportunity to meet with teams, interview, and workout on the field.
