Zac Taylor signals Bengals’ plan to pursue QB addition behind Joe Burrow

· Yahoo Sports

Quarterback depth has become a priority for the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason. Joe Flacco handled backup duties last year but hit the open market and still wants to play. Reports suggest he is looking for a legitimate chance to start somewhere, and that could stretch his timeline out.

With team activities closing in, the Bengals probably can’t afford to wait around and see how that plays out. Joe Burrow’s season ended early because of turf toe, but his production stayed sharp when he was on the field.

He racked up 17 touchdown passes across eight games and earned his third Pro Bowl nod. The organization is focused on keeping its championship window open by building a tougher, more complete roster.

Locking in dependable depth behind Burrow is a key piece of that puzzle.

According to FOX19’s Jeremy Rauch, Taylor said it’s fair to assume Cincinnati will pursue another quarterback via the draft or free agency.

The move shows how seriously the front office is taking the need for insurance if Burrow deals with another injury. Last year’s 6-11 finish left a mark, and the approach heading into this offseason reflects that.

Zac Taylor is not rolling the dice on the backup spot. The Bengals are clearly aiming to bring in someone who can step up and keep things from falling apart when it matters.

Cincinnati cannot go through another season like that. If they want to climb back into the Super Bowl conversation, they need somebody reliable behind their starters.

The window with Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase will not stay open indefinitely, and the front office knows it.
