Those charges are related to a firearm allegedly used in the wounding of an employee at the Mugabe home last Thursday.
The victim is in a hospital in critical condition, BBC News reported.
The two suspects appeared in Alexandra Magistrates Court and will appear again on March 3 for bail proceedings.
Speaking to media outside the courthouse, Mugabe’s lawyer, Sinenhlanhla Mnguni, said his client was “fine” as he remains in custody.
Gardener shot during ‘altercation’
Cops say the person who was shot at the Hyde Park-based home was the gardener, stating there had been an “altercation” between the victim and the accused inside Mugabe’s home. Police said the motive is unclear.
While attempting to flee the altercation, prosecutors say the victim was “ shot in the back and collapsed outside the gate,” which was then closed.
While authorities have found bullet cartridges, the firearm used during the shooting has not been located since the two men were arrested.
Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe is the youngest son of Robert Mugabe and his second wife, Grace Mugabe.
Matonhodze is believed to be Bellarmine’s bodyguard, BBC News reported.
Robert Mugabe served as Zimbabwe’s president for 37 years before he was ousted in a coup in 2017. He died in 2019 in Singapore at the age of 95.
