The Alabama quarterback is viewed by most as the No. 2 QB in this draft class behind just Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, which makes this a pivotal Combine for Simpson.
Mendoza isn't throwing this week. He'll save that for his Pro Day.
Simpson? He is going to throw at the Combine, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
"(Simpson) will participate in the throwing session and do practically everything else here as far as testing other than running a 40 (yard dash)," Pelissero said. "Big opportunity for Simpson to solidify himself as a first-round draft pick."

Given the importance of the quarterback position, and the assumption that Mendoza will go off the board with the first overall pick, Simpson has a big chance in front of him.
If he is indeed the QB2 in this class, and if he impresses at the Combine, he genuinely could get himself into the middle of the first round.
If he struggles, though, that might make it a quarterback wasteland and force teams to consider finding passers in other ways this offseason.
Simpson will have an extra level of focus on him because he was only Alabama's starter for one season. A number of single-season starters in recent memory have struggled to make impacts in the NFL.
Clearly, Simpson has NFL-level traits. But will the lack of experience cause struggles? NFL teams will be trying to read into his Combine performance to at least get some added perspective on that.
Simpson, to his credit, won't be hiding. He's going out there on the field to try and prove himself.
