Two Notre Dame hockey alums help Team USA win the Gold Medal

· Yahoo Sports

The United States Women’s Hockey team had a rousing Gold Medal game, finding a way to score the equalizer with just minutes left in regulation and finished the job off with a golden goal in overtime to defeat the Canadian team 2-1.

There was a distinct Notre Dame feel to the win as two of its coaches previously played for the Irish. Starting off with the head coach John Wroblewski, who graduated in 2003. He went undrafted and played four seasons for the Fresno Falcons in the ECHL. Wroblewski would retire after 4 seasons, and got into. He’d get his first head coaching job in 2011 with the Gwinnett Gladiators and then moved over to the Rochester Americans. A two-year stint with the Ontario Reign, Wroblewski took over the his current position with the women’s national team in 2022.

The second former member of the Irish to help win Gold was Josh Sciba, who graduated in 2007 and is an assistant on Wroblewski’s staff. The two former Notre Dame players joined the women’s team in the same year. Prior to that Sciba worked with the U.S. Under-18 team also as an assistant and helped them win a Gold Medal in 2020. He’s worked with Team USA for the last 10-years.

Congrats to Wroblewski and Sciba, who will surely be celebrating this epic victory for years to come.
